Edo Period Polychrome Shallow Bowl

Japanese export porcelain bowl, c. 1670.

 

Dimensions: Approximately 13⅜” diameter x 2⅜” tall.

 

Decoration:

The bowl is decorated with an overall design of clouds and pine tree with flowering plants at the base.

 

The pine tree limbs are filled with pine needles and pinecones. Some of the needles and pinecones have gilt highlights. As do the edges of the clouds.

 

The reverse is decorated with a blue vine.

 

The base is surrounded by three bands, bears kiln seven spurs, and bears an apocryphal Chenghua mark.
