Edo Period Large Polychrome Charger
Japanese porcelain charger, c. 1710.
Dimensions: Approximately 17⅛” diameter.
Decoration:
The border is decorated with large gilt Japanese phoenixes or Hoo birds among flowers separated by areas gilt arabesques on a red ground.
The center is decorated with blue Hoo birds highlighted with gilding around a central medallion.
The reverse is undecorated with blue geometric designs with small green and black clouds placed randomly. There are three blue circles at the foot
The base bears 6 kiln spurs and an apocryphal Chenghua mark within a blue circle.
