Chinese Export Armorial Plate – Wilkinson
Chinese export porcelain plate, circa 1775.
Dimensions: Approximately 9¼” in diameter.
Decoration:
The rim is decorated with an underglaze blue butterfly and diaper pattern.
The cavetto is decorated with an underglaze blue diaper pattern with insets.
The center is decorated with a unicorn crest, likely for Wilkinson of Durham, and the arms of Wilkinson impaling Burdeaux, likely a Huguenot family.
The reverse is undecorated.
The service is illustrated and discussed in Howard, “Chinese Armorial Porcelain”, Vol. 1., at p. 600.
Condition: Minor glaze frit on rim; otherwise in excellent condition consistent with age and usage. Please examine the photos; they are part of the description.
